"The valley of Ghosts"
Trail goes along the Southern slopes of DemerdzhiMountain
near Alushta city (East from Yalta). Here, natures fantasy and human fantasy meet. You will see unique rock
formations resembling animals, birds, people, towers, and many other things,
limited only by your imagination. Visit the Medieval Fortification
"Funa".
The nearest town is Alushta,
founded in the 6th century CE by Emperor Justinian. There are
also vestiges of a Byzantine defensive tower and a 15th-century Genoese
fortress. The town was called Aluston in the Byzantine Empire, and Lusta during
the Genoese rule. Adam Mickiewicz dedicated two of his Crimean Sonnets to
Alushta. Its sister city is Santa Cruz, California.
